The CV locals are going to freak out over this heatwave, but most don't realize it could be much worse.

May weather numbers on a map
Google now shows three triple digit days in Sac during the next ten days, and only day below 90 at 89. Still way better than Texas. Can't say that's not hot, but to me, with low humidity, balmy evenings, and lows below 70, it's pretty great. It's almost summer.

The National Weather Service put out this heat advisory for Friday, where they are expecting that it might be as hot as 105 in Sacramento on Friday, but it is forcast to be cooler in Redding 102 and Red Bluff 103 on that day. What I don't understand is why that would be the case. There are fewer mountains between Sacramento and the nearest ocean compared to Redding and Red Bluff, so I would assume that should make it cooler and not hotter in Sac. If there were Diablo winds wouldn't that effect and the temperature rise be more pronounced further North closer to Mt. Shasta?

Pool weather is finally here! I am waiting for the mercury to rise from 75 to 80 on my pool without using expensive gas heater.

In Sacramento - If the prevailing winds are NOT from the South Southwest during spring, summer and fall and/or if there is zero prevailing wind from that direction we can heat-up just like anywhere else in the Great Central Valley......and our nights will not cool until much later....

Redding (155 miles north of Sac) and Red Bluff (132 miles north of Sac) will be having a good amount of cloud cover from a system from the west north west.....could be why they are forecasted to be a few degrees warmer. Rain is in the forecast for the weekend up here where I am currently - Lassen Volcanic National Park.

On Monday and Tuesday you could see Mt. Shasta -completley snow covered in all its glory and Mt. Lassen, easily from the Red Bluff area. Other days clouds covered Shasta but not Lassen.

A bit off the weather topic for a moment - It's been awhile since I've been up further north, just sharing a few "surprises", the views from Highway 36 up to Lassen and coming down to the Valley are awesome; the Sacramento Valley fully visible and clear, but what is most surprising is the eastern side of Coast Range is huge and fully visible while Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen are spectacular as well in one shot. As the Sacramento River flows from Redding to Red Bluff and down a large canyon, its more of a mountain-foothill river than a flat valley river. The amount of thick FORESTED oaks within the valley and on up to Lassen pretty awesome...untouched unspoiled undeveloped beautiful, hope it stays that way. Kinda of cool to leave the Sacramento Valley and go up to mountains other than the Sierras...the mountains due east of Red Bluff are the Cascades every type of rock at Lassen is Volcanic in origin no Sierra granite....and classic Volcano-shaped mountains present everywhere is a nice change of pace from the Sierras. Lots of snow still in Lassen and most of the Volcanic boiling mud pots and fumarole trails are still closed due to snow. Lake Helen and few others still frozen over. But Manzanita Lake perfectly unfrozen, fun fishing by canoe.

Morning June 9, 2022
