Saw that Sac hit 101 today and six more triple digits on the way, Google predicting 113 at this point (111 in the East Bay). It's been pretty brutal.

The nights in SD seem to be crazy warm right now, we almost never stay above 65 inland but are seeing lots around 75. Seems to happen every six years or so. Glad we're missing it.

I've heard great things about rodeo Beach.
I live in Campus Commons. It is hot this week because of the heat dome, but in general, Campus Commons has lots of trees, is landscaped pretty well and is adjacent to the American River and I would say that means the area tends to be comparatively less hot than other areas around Sacramento. There is often a breeze coming off the American River and the trees and the landscaping tend to prevent heat islands. If your friends think Campus Commons is too hot, they probably aren't well suited for Sacramento.

We skipped the beach today because of potential traffic jams. Traffic was not bad at all yesterday into Rodeo Beach from the 101. But didn't want to chance it today so we stayed in Mill Valley and watched Shakespeare in the Park, under Redwood Groves, fun production but still hot for Marin County, upper 80's when the play was going on outdoors.

Later had dinner in Mill Valley and it was 94F at 5:00 super hot for them. None of the restaurants and shops in downtown Mill Valley had A/C so it was almost miserable having dinner under those conditions. The restaurants and shops in Corte Madera had the A/C going yesterday so that was much better at the RH Rooftop restaurant.

Tons of evening clouds in Fresno tonite , which are keeping temps higher. Wondering if the atmosphere is going to push some of our heat towards NorCal.

Google tomorrow

Omg. Just saw a model showing 120f in the Sacramento valley on September 10th! Just unrelenting
I’m wondering if my pool temperature will warm up if it reaches 118F outside?

From Mill Valley, taking the bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Presidio for a Picnic and then come back. This is a long bike ride for us, ughh, I wish I had an electric bike. We are trying not to take the car to avoid traffic and parking issues. Saving downtown Sausalito for tomorrow, hopefully Labor Day crowds will be gone and we will bike in to avoid parking issues. My favorite thus far has been Mill Valley, no tourists, slight locals crowd. Marin County is so lovely, so close to Sacramento, every time we spend time here we wonder why we don't come more often. One day we actually drove back to Sacramento because we forgot the dogs meds, on the way back, it took me less than an hour to get to Novato from Sac.

Chim what the heck are dog meds? Funny how people treat their pets better than most human beings.
Anyways good to see the expensive bourgeosie areas of coastal California getting bad heat wave too. Hoping temp in my pool rise to 80 so swimming more comfortable. Was freezing when I jumped in this week!

A little but not as much as you think. Water has a pretty high thermal mass, so it takes a fair amount of energy to heat it up, but the humidity levels are low, so you are getting a fair amount of evaporative cooling, which is offsetting some of this potential heating. Additionally hot water tends to rise, so while the top couple of inches might warm up, the hottest weater is staying at the top of the pool and not mixing with the other water below and its the temperature differential that really heats up the water fastest.

Lastly there is the issue of how much direct sunlight is actually hitting your pool. Radiant heat from light striking your pool bottom will heat up your pool better than the ambiant heat from the atmosphere. if your pool has a fair amount of shade either from trees and building in either your property or your neighbors that too will impact how much the pool heats up.
