I am new to Sacramento and looking for a place to rent. Someone told me that 5th & S Streets was at one time the "red light" district. What can anyone share with me about the neighborhood currently.

thanks..

5th is more "downtown", which used to be more Red Light -ish, but also the international district area. THey have put some money into it with newer condos etc. I guess it will depend on what the actual complex is like.

I prefer MidTown which means any number street HIGHER than 16th (16th to 30th, are best) Anything over 30th is now East Sac - and is a VERY nice area.

Well, many of the ladies and men of the night made good money from the boom
and have since retired to Lands Park ...

5th and S is getting towards the river and is right near southside park which is a beautful
park with a huge playground. Bigger than you could possibly imagine.

This neighborhood is north of the park and is kind of run down
with older once grand homes. I saw a few bars on windows when I walked past
on the way to the great farmers market that occurs under the bypass at 6th and W.
Its not going to be a good neighborhood ever because its not more than 1000 feet (not
yards) from both 50 AND 80 which are busy busy roads even on the weekend.
