Nothing if you are used to murders, drugs, and of that other crap.

There's plenty of other nicer areas within driving distance if you don't want to live within the midst of the crap. I'm sure someone will come onboard and say we are all exaggerating.

I was wondering how excessive are California taxes? I live in Florida so we have not State tax. I just have federal taxes deducted from my pay checks. How big of a pay cut would I get living in Sacramento County? This is all new to me.

We have fairly high state income taxes (they max out at 12% or so) but low property taxes (1%.)

2014 California Income Tax Table 2013 - 2014

Tax Bracket (Single) Marginal Tax Rate $0+ 1.00% $7,582+ 2.00% $17,976+ 4.00% $28,371+ 6.00% $39,384+ 8.00% $49,774+ 9.30% $254,250+ 10.30% $305,100+ 11.30% $508,500+ 12.30%
California has eighteen marginal tax brackets, ranging from 1.00% (the lowest California tax bracket) to 12.30% (the highest California tax bracket). Each marginal rate only applies to earnings within the applicable marginal tax bracket.

What about electric bills in California? In Florida I will would pay about $125-30 a month comfortably. What about car insurance in California? Health insurance.

1) check the website for SMUD (Sacramento county) & PGE
2) Sacramento is covered by many national carriers for car insurance (i.e, Farmers, All State, Liberty Mutual, etc) call & ask. I get a discount through my employer
3) Unless your remployer provides health insurance, you will need to go through the exchange, here it is called "covered California"

Probably less than Florida if you're in SMUD territory. SMUD is 11 cents per kWh or so, up to about 15 in the high usage tier (I've never even gotten close to that, but a lot of folks do). Little humidity and mild spring and fall plus delta breezes mitigate AC demand but that TOTALLY depends on the type of place you live.

All of which are far worse than Florida, save for perhaps property taxes, and even then not by much. Just a fair warning.....
