Sacramento is one of the places I'm considering to transfer to. My job location is in Highland. What is Highland like? What is Sacrament like? I'm coming from South Florida. I want to move to the West Coast to be closer to my wife and kids. It's a complicated story. I hear the cost of living is about the same or higher than Miami. What are people like there? How are the schools? Is it a good place to raise children? Job market? I just like to hear from people that are actually living in the place I'm asking about. Thanks.

Is the job in the city of Highland City of Highland - Home or North Highland near Sacramento?
I'm confused, if you have a job you are transferring to, why are you concerned about the job market? What type of job will you have?

As for schools, it depends on where you live. You can check here: GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community

If it's North Highlands, that's not such a good area.

Well it's Sacramento County. Northern California. Doesn't specify if it's North Highland, I'm assuming it is. So it's not a good area..that's not good. I asked about the job market in case I decide to get a second job or find something better.

*IF* it's North Highlands, then no, that's not a good area. But it's a pretty dang small "not good" area, so you'd obviously be able to commute in from elsewhere. While it's obviously better to work in a nice area, I wouldn't let that completely dissuade you if the job is decent. Job market is okay (improving, just like most other places), but depends on what you do.

I think No Highland would be fine during the day for work. Doesn't mean you HAVE to live there. It really depends on how far you are willing to drive to work. You could always live in West Roseville, or Natomas and the commute wouldn't be that bad.

Is North Highland the Highland in Sacramento County? What's so bad about it? I live in Miami so I know bad neighborhoods. I'm accustomed to murders, drugs, and of that other crap. It's on the local news here daily. I have a family. So yeah I'd prefer to live somewhere family friendly. I wouldn't mind commuting. I'm guessing this is not far from Sacramento City.

It's called "North Highlands", there is no "South Highlands" or just plain "Highlands." The neighborhood is adjacent to a closed Air Force base (converted to mostly industrial and social services.) It's a relatively high-crime neighborhood, that's basically what is bad about it. To the south is Arden-Arcade, an unincorporated neighborhood with a better reputation. Both are outside the Sacramento city limits. Natomas to the west (within Sacramento) or Roseville to the east (in Placer County) are a bit farther away but also safer places.

I would reccommend Antelope or Arden-Arcade. Next to North Highlands, but nicer.
