My husband has been offered a job near Fruitridge and 99 (east of 99). We'd like to be as close as possible to this area, but in a very safe, family friendly neighborhood. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What's your price range and how big of a place are you looking for?The area immediately north and west of Fruitridge and 99 has some affordable places in a nice neighborhood. Probably looking at 150-250k for a nice place. East of 99 and/or south of Fruitridge are generally unpleasant neighborhoods.

Pocket (west of I-5, kind of along Florin, which shows up as semi-circle on the map) is even nicer and very family-friendly, but is a little pricier. Maybe 200-400? Pricier still is Land Park/Curtis Park, west of 99, north of Sutterville. Nice and family-friendly, generally very attractive, a little more walkable, and closer to downtown/midtown, if that matters to you. There, you're looking at 300k and very much up. I haven't looked at prices for a while, so I'm a little rusty.

Congrats on the job offer for your husband and good luck on the move.

I wanted to stay near the South Sacramento area because of all the Asian grocery stores and Asian restaurants. The two closest areas where I felt safe and yet close enough to South Sac are Pocket/Green Haven area and Elk Grove. Lived in the Pocket area from 2000-2010 and never once had any issue. Safe and quiet. Bought a house in Elk Grove in 2010 and I too feel very safe in this area.

I agree with this: "East of 99 and/or south of Fruitridge are generally unpleasant neighborhoods."

The other areas nearby you might want to consider, depending on how far of a commute you want, is Tahoe Park, East Sac or the Elmhurst area near UC Davis Med Center. There's also a lot of newer develoment with large country style lots off Calvine Rd..Wildhawk, Vineyard, etc. Even the southern & newer parts of Rancho Cordova (Anatolia, Kavala Ranch) would be an easy commute coming thru the countryside on Grant Line. BTW, you probably want to avoid Oak Park.

Have you been to the Koreana Plaza Rancho Cordova? I hear it is awesome! They have special aisles and/or sections for Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian and Eastern European, Latin American, Hawaiian, Middle Eastern, Indian, American foods and more. https://foursquare.com/v/koreana-pla...64a520012221e3

Read about it in the sacbee a few weeks ago about the owner. Last time I was in that area, Koreana Plaza didn't exist yet. It did peak my interest after reading sacbee's article. Will check out this place soon.
