Agreed! although, I will say now that I've been here awhile, and changed jobs 3 times (in 2 years) & moved to the suburbs, I've developed quite a circle of friends, and love living here. I visit the valley frequently, and I really notice the differences (weather, economics, wide open spaces, less traffic, people look you at you vs looking away when passing on the street/in stores)....there are always plus & minuses.

The Sacramento suburbs have been tracking very similar temps to Fresno. I think it was hotter in Folsom/EDH today than it was in Visalia. That's crazy!

People don't *move* to Fresno. They *leave* Fresno.

Sacramento is 10 to the 23rd power times nicer than Fresno. Unless you have an extremely high income in Fresno where you could live like royalty, its Sacramento hands down, even with all of our lovely corrupt City Council...

Not always true. It's really pretty easy to live like royalty in Fresno unless you work at McD's or Wal-Mart.

I think Fresno has a lot of good things going for it, unfortunately, weather ain't one of them. I do like the proximity to the lakes/rivers & the Sierra's and it has some darn good skiing close by.

Hmm...just wondering if those who are putting down Fresno have actually lived there. I have.

If the OP decided to move to Fresno, then I'm pretty sure that either he or she is already dead....

Having grown up nearby, I'm not a huge fan of Fresno or the south valley, but I will say that the proximity to the mountains is nice. It's not so much that they're closer than we are, it's that it's much easier to find some peace and quiet and to get away without fretting about reservations, traffic, etc. On an average weekend, the mountains near Fresno (Yosemite being an obvious exception) are only attracting central valley folk (many of whom don't have the means to vacation a lot, sadly), rather than the entire Sac metro area PLUS a bunch of Bay Area folks.
