Remind me, this is 2014 right?

Are there any plans to replace these ancient cash only machines? I tried looking on sac rts website and found nothing.

12 Stations do have those now:

Credit_Debit - Sacramento Regional Transit

Sac RT states that:

"Although there may be multiple FVMs at a station, only one will accept credit/debit card payments. The FVM is easily identifiable by a decal above the card slot that displays the types of credit/debit cards accepted. The new FVMs will accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa."

I am not sure about the "easily identifiable" part.

As for me, I don't know where I would be were it not for the ease of getting a discounted monthly pass in advance.

I see.

Well they need to hurry up and get around installing these things at the other stations. There are a lot more than 12 and they aren't at any of the stations I use.

Yes, because the world revolves around your need to pay for your fare via credit card.

Hopefully, using debit cards to charge up a transit card will be the norm. I don't carry cash around with me and hate dealing with change. Would especially be good if the destitute people who live downtown don't automatically assume I'm carrying cash.

Yeah, they are preparing to switch to a smart-card type transit card system.
