Because that's when it's unbearable.

Sacramento's dew point right now is a low 24. The "Feels like" temp is 94, it's NOT muggy.

Austin's dew point is 66! with a temp of 96 degrees. That very very muggy and sticky hot. (2hrs ago)

LA's dew point is 64! - That's in the uncomfortable range, but it's only 77 degrees.

All 3 locations are uncomfortable-warm for this time of the evening. This is not normal for Sacramento nor LA, but it is normal for Austin - Muggy Sticky Hot.

Oh for Pete's sake. Who in Sacramento gives a good rat's patooty about the weather in Austin besides someone fixated upon it? Oops! That would be you. The same goes for L.A.; unless you really meant LA but I doubt most Californians give a hoot about Louisiana.

Good question, that's what makes Sacramento's summer so unique, and you would never know it unless you lived here a few summers all 3-4 months.

With the Delta Breeze, the wind effect and the lower temp keep the moisture/humidity associated with the Delta Breeze cool. It can be "humid" but the temp is low enough for the humidity to NOT have the affect of making it feel warmer, in Sacramento's case it has the opposite effect of making Sacramento feel COOLER.

When it's 58-65 degrees, high humidity has no effect in making it feel warmer; it simply keeps Sacramento from becoming bone dry like the Phoenix or Vegas, or parts of SoCal.

The NorCal Pacific ocean's marine layer, fog, VERY COOL AIR(low 50's) and strong wind that cools Sacramento in the summer, especially evenings, nights and all morning hours.

During the day Sacramento's humidity range is in the 10-20% range, dew points in the mid-50's or lower - Comfortable range. This has the effect of making it feel about 3-5 degrees cooler as well during the day.

Sacramento has to be just as hot as Fresno. Otherwise, you would have tried throwing it under the bus too.

Not throwing Fresno under the bus, the weather, temps, heat index, dew points are what they are.

Sacramento is (on average) COOLER than Fresno in the summer on average by 10-15 degrees mostly because of the effect of the DELTA BREEZE but also because we are 170 miles north.

I still think people who claim Sacramento is humid are those who think "humid" is another word for "very hot." They don't actually know what humidity is.
Glad you posted, Burg. The higher dew points in coastal SoCal also make the difference between 75 on the beach feel way hotter than 72 on the beach, the dew point plus the cool ocean breeze will make 75 feel down right Warm, in full sun, and no wind. Turn on the ocean breeze and 75 feels fine.

This is why they don't understand that 92 with a 55 dew point is actually comfortable.

When I was in SF, earlier this week, it was 72 in the evening and when that cool breeze stopped just breifly along with a dew point of 60 made it feel very warm; and it was only 72 degrees, again, coastal California's don't under Sacramento's weather and their tolerance is very limited.

And cooler in the winter by about the same amount. Fresno winter weather obliterates Sacramento's. Our typical lows im winter are 10-15 degrees warmer than there in winter.

Because that moisture-laden air acts like a giant swamp cooler? The cool moist air hits the hot dry air in the evening, which helps drop the temperature--and even that moist air, is still less humid than coastal air, so it doesn't hold the heat like really humid air does. So the Sacramento area cools at night due to our own natural swamp cooler and by radiating heat into the night sky unimpeded by too much heat-retaining moisture.

Meanwhile Fresno, with its even drier air, devoid of breeze, just bakes people like a solar oven with no relief.

That's just my best guess, though, I'm no meteorologist. But in practice, that's just what happens.

Sorry you are wrong again. Why do think that?

Winter Average LOW temps (Dec, Jan, Feb):

Sacramento: 42 degrees

Fresno: 39 degrees

Winter Average HIGH temps (Dec, Jan, Feb):

Sacramento: 56 degrees

Fresno: 57 degrees
