Our local Seattle TV station is reporting "rumors" that the Kings have been sold to Seattle Arena developer Chris Hansen. So Oklahoma City stole our team, now it looks like we'll be stealing yours. If it does happen, you have my apologies.

Rumors suggest the Sacramento Kings are moving to Seattle | KING5.com Seattle

The day after Virginia Beach announces the collapse of their arena plan that was supposed to include the Kings? Just trying to keep the pressure on in Sacramento and local anxiety high. The Virginia Beach plan was based on 90% public funding and 10% from a corporate sponsor, and that apparently wasn't sweet enough for them...assuming they were even involved, as usual they refused to even acknowledge that they were participating in the deal.

Well, it's a rumor, not confirmed news, so no need to apologize if it doesn't happen. In any case, everyone involves is either denying it or is silent. I always got the feeling that if they wanted to sell, they could, and they could possibly do so locally (what was the name of the LA-area rich guy with a soft spot for Sac who was supposed to be interested in buying?), but that they're more interested in holding on to the team and trying to squeeze a publicly financed arena out of some municipality.

Edit: spoke too soon. Edging closer to actual truth: http://www.sacbee.com/2013/01/09/510...n-rumored.html

Just as long as the Maloofs don't own them anymore...

The Kings are nomads anyway - been in Rochester, NY, Cincinnati, and Kansas City too.
Last summer (2011) there was quite a bit of talk about Anaheim/OC too

I'm mostly looking forward to minor league soccer within walking distance of my house.

You go KJ!

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said today he has been talking to investors who could form a local group to bid for the Sacramento Kings.

Johnson said he's been talking to various potential groups. "I cannot identify them," he said. "There's been more than one."

"I want the community to know that we're going to fight like crazy to get to where we need to be," he said.

Johnson says he's talked with investors to make local bid for Kings - Kings/NBA - The Sacramento Bee

Win or lose, I love his spirit.

Apparently the line among other NBA team owners is that the Maloofs get a lot of girls' phone numbers but can't seem to get any of them into bed. They get offered these crazy deals and turn them down because they aren't quite insane enough. Now they're trying to get multiple parties into a bidding war to pay $500 million for a team that was valued at $300 million not that long ago. Guess they ordered a few too many of those $6000 burgers and have a big ol' tab to pay.

This move makes a certain dreadful sense, unlike the previous false alarms. VA Beach was too small; LA has 2 teams already. Meanwhile, Seattle badly wants to replace the franchise it once had.

It's definitely looking like the plot from Major League, but with less hilarity: NBA owners forced to choose between Maloofs and Sacramento in remake of Major League | ProBasketballTalk
