When the relocation train rolls in a year or two from now, one of the places at the top of the list is Sacramento. What are your favorite day trips, overnighters or weekend getaways within reasonable driving distance? I don't want to feed with my thoughts, so just throw them out and lets see what we get!

Lost of places to camp in the El Dorado Forest. Of course, Lake Tahoe. Wine country (not Napa but Amador and El Dorado County where it's mostly free to taste and you don't have to fight the crowds. San Francisco, beaches, etc. etc. etc.

San Francisco, Napa, Lake Tahoe, Angel Island (SF bay), Bolinas, Monterey, Santa Cruz (the latter probably at the limits of a day trip but we've done these as day trips...and with kids)

Lake Berryessa? Some pretty decent short hikes in **** Creek State Park at the near end. Usually for a day thing I stay in town and find something to do on the river though.

Drives down Highway 160 into the little towns of the Delta like Locke, Isleton, Walnut Grove, Clarksburg and Courtland. Ride a historic streetcar at the Western Railway Museum on Highway 12 between Rio Vista and Fairfield. Check out the Gold Country mining towns like Auburn, Placerville and Coloma, or Nevada City. All the fleshy delights of San Francisco Bay are within 100 miles or so, personally I prefer to take the Capitol Corridor trains in order to avoid the most repulsive part of visiting the Bay Area, driving through Bay Area traffic.

Cheap Things - All but two in Sacramento Stern Grove in SF: google it, every Sunday throughout summer. Must do, great setting, picnic and enjoy.

Overnighters, or 3-day trips, the longer you stay the better,
Lake Tahoe - Bike ride the many trails, hike, camp, gamble. Desolation wilderness. Visit the Heavenly Ski resort in the Summer. (100 miles, or less)
Russian River - Drive to Guerneville, take long route through Napa and Sonoma, faster routes through Petaluma. All great towns to visit. Spend some time in a Redwood forest. (100 miles, or less)
Sausalito/Marin County - Take Highway 37, bring your bike, shop, ride around the town, back roads, and to the Golden Gate, cross the bridge if you will. (100 miles or less)
Santa Cruz - Great surfing town, take a surfing lesson. (145 miles)
Carmel/Monterey/Pacific Grove - Boutique shopping, summer local theater, great hikes. Surf Carmel Beach. (175 miles)
Mt. Shasta - Similar to Tahoe, but a more beautiful single, conic shaped volcanic mountain. Awesome, beautiful hikes, great alpine lakes - Castle & Siskiyou Lakes, great little towns: Dunsmuir, Mt. Shasta City, Weed. Spectacular scenery. Fly fishing, mountain biking, camping. Visit the Ski resort in Summer: Mountain Biking, ride the chair lifts. Boating, water skiing on gianormous Shasta Lake. (200 miles)

Wow. I couldn't figure out if that was C-D or if you were just trying to be funny. I've never heard of that being censored, but I guess it's a good reminder of what a difference a letter can make.
