Any safe places to live with walking / biking / Train / bus distance (Arden-Arcade: best neighborhoods, apartment)

Hello all, I will be starting a new job around McClellan Park Dr. is where my office will be.
I was looking for a safe place to rent an apartment between $600-$800, have never been there.
any good suggestions / advice will be greatly appreciated.

I did do some research and seem like a a lot of negative comments about the surrounding area but I figure I would ask the dwellers of the area for the real scoop.

I don't live in that area, but I would suggest that you check out the northern end of No Highlands as it changes into Antelope. Or you could look across 80 into Foothill Farms. Or you could look at No Natamos and drive in via Elkhorn.

caligirlz's suggestions probably cover the best neighborhoods nearby. Regarding biking, I'm not super familiar with the immediate area, but there are a few boulevards that have bike lanes. Additionally, there's a nice off-street bike trail that runs up Rio Linda Blvd, on what used to be railroad tracks. Check google maps and click "bicycling" to get the general layout of bike trails/paths.

McClellan offers a ton of alternative transit options and subsidies that give you some flexibility on where to live. For instance, if you wanted to live in the city, you could get to McClellan in about 45-60 minutes via light rail and bus (or light rail and bike), depending on where you work in McClellan and how close to light rail you live. There are also a few bus lines that run up and down Watt Ave and connect to the McClellan shuttles that would allow you to live in the Arden-Arcade area.
