I came across this article & found the related website to be quite interesting. It says "in Sacramento, California, the average commute time is 25.7 minutes, which appears to be longer than most other places in the US, according to the map based on US Census Bureau data." Poking around on the interactive map makes it clear there are other areas with much longer commutes.

For 16 years I lived in EDH and commuted to Sacramento. I averaged 26,000 miles a year on my car in those day. Then I moved to midtown and now average 13,000 miles a year. I reflect back on those earlier years and realize I was numb to what was going on. Life is much better now.

When I lived in EDH, I knew this person who worked as an engineer in Sunnyvale and commuted each day. Unbelievable.

You only cut your commute miles in half by living in midtown? seems like it should be more.

Maybe borninsac uses their car for things other than commuting?
