Hello,

I have been viewing different websites about the new residential developments being constructed in West Sacramento / The Bridge District (not certain if TBD is in West Sacramento). I plan to visit Sacramento sometime this summer or fall.

Just wondering what the neighborhood is like (TBD). For instance, there is a development called “The Habitat” which seems to be a very nice complex/building(s).

1. Is TBD near Downtown or Midtown Sac?

2. How much do apartments usually rent for (quite surprised how “reasonable” rents are in Sacramento in general)?

3. Is this a “Live, Work, Play” type of neighborhood?

4. Is it a walkable area – won’t look “crazy” walking here and there or is it a car-dependent area? Decent public transportation?

5. What is the age demographics like –20’s, 30’s, 40’s crowd? Older?

6. Are there any major employers there – insurance, general contractor, retail or tech companies?

7. Are any other sections in Sacramento being revitalized (for example, there are newly built apartments / homes near Raley Field)?

I hope it does not appear I’m jumping around different parts of Sacramento. I will need to map out areas before visiting. Sacramento seems like a nice small city with a suburban feel. I know Sac is not “perfect” from what I’ve read in this forum; however, it seems like a place to consider if thinking about relocating.

Thanks in advance for any responses :-)

To answer your questions:
1. Across the river from downtown Sacramento, in the City of West Sacramento.
2. Still affordable, but rising, especially for the brand new construction.
3. Not yet, but that is the goal.
4. Not yet, but that is the goal. Not sure if it will work given a lack of river crossings.
5. in progress.
6. Not yet, but that is the goal. (are we seeing a pattern here?)
7. Raley Field *is* TBD, or close enough.

The Bridge District is very much a work in progress. They're basically building it from scratch. However, when it's finished it will be a very cool neighborhood.

It will be a bit of a hike from the heart of Midtown... Raley Field is roughly 2 miles from say, 20th and J. Its quite walkable or bikeable, though, if you're not in a hurry... with Uber here, the issue of it "being too far to walk" if you are bombed from Midtown, or Old Sac, or K Street, or the Bridge District isn't going to be an issue if you've got 5-10 bucks for a quick Uber ride.

Exactly--it's hard to say what kind of neighborhood it is, because it isn't really a neighborhood yet, it's mostly a construction zone. It's just across the Sacramento River from downtown Sacramento, and Midtown Sacramento is the neighborhood beyond that. Assuming the vote for the streetcar is successful, there will be a streetcar line running from downtown West Sacramento through the Bridge District to Downtown and ending in Midtown in a couple of years.

Is it me or that whole area looks like it'll flood? At least from 305, it looks sooooooo low.

One point perhaps worth mentioning is that West Sacramento is not part of the city or county of Sacramento. West Sacramento is a small city of about 60,000, about 1/8 the size of Sacramento. Most of the region has a suburban feel, because we're very spread out: the city covers about 100 square miles for a bit under half a million people.

Downtown and midtown Sacramento are revitalizing, as are downtowns around the country. Other Sacramento neighborhoods didn't really need much revitalizing and other outer parts of the city and county are not doing so well but there is a lot of attention on the central city. West Sac's proximity to downtown (despite being in another county it's closer than many City of Sacramento neighborhoods to downtown) is a big advantage they are trying to play up, thus all the recent development. Until 10-15 years ago much of West Sac was industrial buildings and farmland that is now suburban neighborhood (Southport) and the still-under-construction Bridge District.
