Becareful letting your lawns go brown. In the process you might stress, permanently damage and or kill trees in the process.

Grass is easy to replace and fairly cheap.

A 50 year old California Sycamore not so much.

City of Trees and such.

Saw on news 10 last night, it might actually be better to water daily for 4 minutes and should keep the lawn greener vs 2 nights @ 15 min each. (or 1 night @ 30 min) And you'll save more water.

I've started putting a hose on the trees on a slow trickle and let them go for an hour or so to let it get down into the roots. This should be done every 1 or 2 weeks

Lots of conflicting info out there.

I run the drip lines on my trees, but just realized, the tree in my front yard only gets water when I water the grass, so guess I'll have to put a soaker hose out there. Last year, the front survived, it was the backyard that had the problems. Still thinking about paving it over...or something.

I'd be careful about paving your yard, most cities/counties impose certain limits on impervious surface coverage on residential lots.

Yup soaker hoses work great for plants and trees. In my district we can water any day if it's with drip or soaker or by hand.

I'm still only watering my grass two days a week but if I feel the plants or trees need some extra I will hit them with a soaker hose.

It's gonna be a long summer folks.

I was thinking my backyard where the grass has always been challenged. I have seen other homes in Folsom with the majority of the backyard paved. So, I know it's an option. It may not be that great of a selling point later on down the road though. I'd really prefer a pool. But it's out of my budget for now.

Same here in Folsom, I can water by drip every day if I choose.

Good news is El Niño continues to strengthen and its almost certain this winter will be well above average with possible extreme flooding... Hope the region is ready for what is coming.. i.e., double checking levees etc over this summer to make sure everyone is safe when it hits.

Army Corps raised and strengthened the levees in our flood plain about 15 years ago thank goodness. Kept me from having to buy extra insurance at a crazy rate when they redid the flood maps.
