Sacramento gardeners could teach Phoenix gardeners a lot about how to deal with hot, dry weather.
Seems like here in Phoenix, builders do not plant parkway trees like they do in Sac (at least the older areas)

When I suggest planting more shade trees in Phoenix on C-D, many Phoenicians sprew their speech about 'saving water", even though it's 110 degrees at NOON!! These people are NUTS.

It seems to me that water conservation is on par with global warming to these nuts.

I have a lush, tif bermuda grass lawn and a huge, southern live oak in my backyard. My front yard has a Ruby Lace honey locust and more bermuda grass. LOVELY!!

Sorry, but I'm with your neighbors. You don't plant a forest in the desert. And if you don't like the heat, you don't live there.

Sacramento gets more than twice the average rainfall of Phoenix. We're in a drought right now, but there's a reason why landscaping in Phoenix and Sacramento look very different--they don't have the same climate.

Well, I disagree. Sacramento is hot and dry in the summer yet has BEAUTIFUL shade trees. Phoenix, not so much.
Gardeners here don't know how to maintain tif bermuda lawns, and they sure don't know about micro nutrient deficiencies like zinc that cause trees here to DIE here.

last summer I visited your Capital grounds and was SO impressed by the beauty of your shade trees. This needs to be done more in Phoenix. It's just stupidity of the gardeners here in Phoenix. IMO. Thanks.

+1. The only "lawn" that makes sense in Phoenix is crushed rock and cacti.

Exactly. You don't move to the desert and gripe because there's no forest. Plus, it's one of the things I love about the desert. When done right, the landscape is beautiful, native to the area, and doesn't look like every other suburb in the US.
