You've got the new light rail by your house and you can jump on it and it can take you away!

It's a beautiful day and lunch downtown sounds intriguing. Where do you go?

Or do you take the light rail somewhere other than downtown!

IMO, I'd rather take a drive to somewhere in the outskirts of the city, or into the foothills. I'm not that familiar with what is available within walking distance of light rail. I think I took the LT once when I lived in East Sac, and then we hiked all over. That was about 4 years ago, and I'm sure most of the restaurants have changed now. I'm sure some of the midtownies will provide you with some good ideas.

If you want to come out to Folsom, then I'd suggest Karen's Cafe or Sam Horne's. Here's a list of places to eat on Sutter St. http://www.historicfolsom.org/food.cfm

What's your starting point?

Well, I certainly wouldn't take the south line that I used to refer to as the "Ghetto Train." By all means go downtown and prowl the restaurants. There are plenty of choices and some good walking under the tree canopy. I would, however, avoid the noontime crush of state workers.

If I may ask, where is this new line?

I would go to WAL (Warehouse Artist Lofts, at 11th and R) and eat at Fish Face, the new poke bar. It's right on light rail and the food is excellent. There is another little kitchen/restaurant in the same space if raw fish isn't your thing -- I have not eaten there but it's supposed to be great. Other nearby options: Magpie (my favorite restaurant in Sacramento, although I haven't been to their new space), Shoki Ramen (amazing).

The new line is a long overdue extension of the "Ghetto Train", or "Blue Line", to Cosumnes River College. Why this wasn't built before the "Green Line" that goes nowhere is beyond me.

Yes, the OP should be fine as long as they go all the way to the college. Do not get off in S. Sac/Meadowview. unless you want to.
