Even if Arco was maintained as an entertainment venue, it would have been doubtful that more concerts would come to the area. An article in the bee a couple of years ago (sorry, don't have a link, bookmark no longer works) listed several reasons why more concerts don't come to this area:

1. The Bay Area market will bear higher ticket prices. (Not solved by new arena.)
2. The loading docks are Arco are inconvenient. (Supposed to be solved with new arena.)
3. The floor of Arco arena is too small so the number of high-priced seats that can be offered is too low. (Made worse with the new arena. As you pointed out, professional hockey could be played at Arco and the new arena is too small to hold a rink.)
4. Fewer acts are playing in arenas. (Not solved by new arena.)

The speculation was that there would be a bump for a short time because of the shiny, new toy that would gradually decrease because of the other factors.

Interesting. Sucks that the bay always makes sac such a back water town. I guess that will never change, lol.

So the loading docks are too small at Arco, ESC has too small a floor, and wheatland is boiling hot in the summer. No wonder artists do not want to come to Sacramento. Guess Sac should just turn the arco site into a giant rodeo/monster truck venue
