Don't let the negative talk from a few people about Sacramento deter you. Sacramento is a fine place in itself, as well as being just a stone's throw from San Francisco, the Napa/Sonoma wine country, and the Lake Tahoe sierras. Like anywhere else, there are good areas and bad areas, and there are good people and bad people (much more of the former than the latter). Also like anywhere else, it is what you make out of it.
