We might be moving to Folsom soon and are looking for good rated public district elementary schools in Folsom. We are not just after high ratings but more importantly looking for a right balance or combination of a healthy nurturing environment where kids thrive along with good ratings. We believe in district schools and their curriculum, plus we cant afford private schools. So those are out of our consideration.

Another thing that we might need immediately would be pre-school. Not sure if the district offers pre-school? Can you guys help us by suggesting good pre-schools (private or public) in Folsom.

Thanks!

The schools here are excellent and there is no reason to feel you need to have private schools.

The district doesn't provide preschools, but there is a Jr. Kindergarten, aka Transitional Kindergarten or 2-year kindergarten program for those kids turning 5 that aren't quite ready to start kindergarten. It's a great program and is similar to kindergarten but a little less rigorous in the curriculum.

I'm not as familiar with preschools in Folsom. I'm in the camp of parents that believes play based preschools are better for the kids education in the long term than learning based preschools. There are studies showing both sides and each parent has to make their own choice. To me the best bet is to visit the schools and see if the personnel seems to be caring and responsible, and watch if the kids seem to be having a good time vs. nervous or bored.
