Hi - we are planning on moving to Sacramento, and would like to start putting our son on preschool waitlists. Does anyone have recommendations? We are looking for a place with a strong emphasis on learning, do not mind parent participation, and are willing to drive to the best, although we would prefer to stay within 20 minutes or so of the area (we will likely be living in the Arden area). Thanks!

I would recommend Carden of Sacramento off of Marconi near Fulton. I have 2 children in this school and it is a great academic based program. However, if you have a very active child then Cottage Kids off of Cottage Way would be a good program. It has some in class learning time but also has lots of outdoor play time.

There is also the San Juan Unified parent co-op schools that are really great and totally affordable. Here is the link:
SJUSD Departments

One of the best preschool programs around is El Rancho (Fair Oaks and El Camino) and if you're interested in Montessori, Countryside Montessori in Citrus Heights and a little farther out is Claire's Montessori.
