My fiance and I want to relocate to California upon completion of school. We love Northern California and would like to be within a reasonable reach of Yosemite, Tahoe, San Fran, etc. However we are trying to avoid extreme winter weather. My fiance is a bi lingual social worker and I am a skilled carpenter. Our budget is somewhere in the middle of the road. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. P.s Lincoln, Ca had alot of promising leads.. any thoughts?

I would only live in Lincoln if I'm working nearby or at furthest Roseville. Not much going on out there, but if I worked in Roseville, I wouldn't mind living in Lincoln.

65 can get crowded real quick, and a commute into Sacramento can easily reach 1hour+ in the morning...so drive around and see if the distance is worth the lower housing cost.

If you are going to buy in Lincoln check for Mello-Roos and assessments, when we were house hunting everything we found there was packed with local assessments and mello-roos.

I have friends who just sold their house. I think it's a nice slower paced community. I dont think the taxes are that much higher than other areas. I'd consider it if I didnt have to drive too far for work. The demographics may work for you.

What's your budget?

We're considering a relo out of New Mexico and Lincoln, Roseville, Sactown seem like great places to consider. In our late 50's, will still be working (can do from home).

Love the idea of being a two hour or so drive from the ocean, Sierras, San Francisco, etc for weekend getaways. And after a few trips to Sacramento we really like it as a medium size city, with lots of places to walk and not feel so crowded.
