doctor wrote a letter so I'm set as far as the pet issue. If only all the units had balconies. It'd be perfect. The apartments are only accessible via indoor hallways which I don't like as it prohibits air flow. Why they decided to build a complex like that in an area with great weather is beyond me.

The Grass Valley apts all have balconies and accepts pets.

My understanding is they can get some snow. I can't speak to the commute to Auburn. According to one website the air quality is decent. I'd like to find more out about how much snow also. I'll post back when I find something out!

I did some research into the company building the new senior apartments in Grass Valley and came across at least 150 negative reviews, 55 complaints filed with the BBB, and numerous lawsuits--one filed by a Bay Area legal aid on behalf of disabled residents who were living in dangerous conditions and this company wasn't doing anything about it.

I tend to dismiss a handle of reviews especially if they sound like disgruntled people who were upset about being called out for violating rules but I can't ignore the number of reviews against this company as well as how many people talked about the properties being fine until this particular company took over.

Since that is the only senior community being built in Grass Valley I've decided against moving there. I'm grateful I came across the reviews and lawsuits.

Yes, it was fortunate to have come across the bad reviews and other related negative information on the GV complex. So, does that mean Solvang is a definite for you or are there some other possibilities ?

Yay! I also hate the indoor hallway type of buildings. My beef with them is the access from outside. You either have to key in a code or they give you an electronic fob and the systems can be faulty and are frustrating. Plus, you have to walk down the hall or use the elevator and run into other people with their dogs. My dog loves everyone, but not everyone has a friendly dog.

One day I hope to move into a place with garden style apartments, where I can just walk up to my own door. It's funny the little things you use to take for granted.

I'm glad you found out about the Grass Valley place. Solvang looks really nice.

i only have fond memories of visiting solvang as a boy but based on that would put it at the top of my list as well. grass valley is great and seems to be a top destination for the elderly my grandmother lives in the area as does my grandfather on the other side and my mother who is a caregiver stays quite busy in the area its beautiful in all locations i quite like grass valley

As much as I would love to live in Solvang, the apartment building is a closed building and the units are accessible from indoor hallways so that rules Solvang out. I've lived in a house for so many years the thought of not having any sort of cross breeze or a balcony is a bit depressing.

My last option is Paradise. Or I can see if I can stay a bit longer where I'm at now and keep looking.

I am very glad to have come across all those reviews though. I think it would have been a disaster based on what I read.

This is challenging! Something will come up I'm sure. I'll just keep posting questions here. I'm finding it quite helpful.

Well, in Paradise you'll need air conditioning, and you wouldn't be worrying about a cross breeze, because you'll have the place closed up with the A/C going for half the year.

I live in a closed building and I just open the window and use a big floor fan that circulates air from the floor (I can tilt it to face the ceiling).

A garden apartment would be perfect, though, if you can find one.

I can understand it being a challenge. But, as you also stated, something will come up. Below is a Google St view link that you can use to explore Paradise at bit. The one positive I see (at least for me) is it looks like the area has a lot of trees. I also have the impression that it's a rather car dependent area. As NoSnow pointed out, summers may not be very pleasant because of the heat and there really isn't any place within a reasonable rive to escape the heat. 2nd link below is picture of library

I would think Paradise would be cooler than Chico given it's elevation? I've been checking average weather temps. Hmmm. I actually like heat but not humid heat. I have a high school friend who lives just above Paradise. I'll have to get in contact with her. I'm more concerned about all the rain in Paradise.

It is a cottage apartment though---ground floor apartments only and excellent property management.

Ideally I'd be able stay here for awhile longer and just keep looking. Even more ideal is that I'd be able to afford to stay in a house.

Good idea about the fan. Have you noticed that's it's a lot noisier living in a closed building?

If living in an enclosed building doable, I'd much prefer Solvang. I worry about being surrounded by neighbors and having more noise issues as I know these sorts of apartments have thin walls.
