We moved to the Sacramento area over a year ago from Austin. As retired folks we are fortunate to be able to travel frequently. The parking options at SMF are woefully lacking in comparison to most other major cities we have visited. Specifically, there are no private off-airport parking businesses. Most of those offer covered parking spaces, rapid shuttle pickup and transport from parking space to terminal, frequent traveler discounts and, best of all, much lower prices in general. A random sampling of other airports show those fees being anywhere from $7-10 per day versus the $10 Economy and $12 Daily fees at SMF. There doesn't seem to be a feasible public transportation option to SMF either. Is it likely that SMF will begin to offer either or both of these choices at any time in the near future? TIA

Check into hotels that offer park-and-shuttle options. But to be honest, unless you're going to be gone a long time, a couple bucks a day isn't worth the time you're going to spend on this project. Get someone to give you a ride to the airport.

Most of our trips are usually 2-3 days. Not worth staying at a hotel. Maybe they would consider paid parking in their lots without a stay. I will check into that. Inexpensive covered parking without lengthy waits for the shuttle is what I think SMF would benefit from. The summer heat here isn't nearly what it is in Austin so I guess people don't mind the current arrangement.

SMF isn't a big enough airport to get businesses to operate the type of off-airport parking that some of the bigger places have. But $12 a day for covered daily parking is cheap compared to those other airports.

SMF charges $12 per day for the uncovered Daily Lot. Only covered parking is in the garage for $17 per day

When I fly out of SMF, I generally park in the parking structure if I'm gone for a day or two and the Daily Lot B if I'm gone between 3 and 5 days. For longer trips, I generally park in the economy lot, take Super Shuttle or have someone drive me to and from the airport. Have you looked into Uber or Lyft?

I used to park in the covered daily structure for short trips when i had to travel for work (they paid the bill), now I use the economy lot. SMF is small enough that it's really easy to park in economy & take the shuttle.
