Can't believe Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel aren't on that list. Surely they are better than Oakland/Compton/Stockton? Unless there aren't as many parks or playgrounds.

Well, affordability is a factor which eliminates the highest cost of living places. Studies like this are always a bit wonky, 2 areas can be almost exactly alike and yet come up drastically different on the ratings. And what's important to me might be completely different than the method of ratings used. But it's still fun to look at!

The major upside to Folsom is the schools. I had a friend with a kid in the high school in Folsom, and they were building a new theater at the time, which is now used for the community events, too. The schools are extremely well-funded. On that alone, if I could afford Folsom and had kids, it would be my choice of a place to live.

It's also safe, unless things have changed dramatically over the last 10 years or so. And there are a lot of parks and trails and things to do, and proximity to Sacramento, etc.

Folsom is a nice town. But, the schools, especially, are extraordinary.

Folsom is pretty expensive, I don't understand why it's affordability #2.

Also, I wonder why Granite Bay, Loomis areas didn't get ranked, they're all 10 schools. Perhaps lumped together with Roseville and Rocklin?

Would take that incomplete list with a grain of salt.

You will pay twice as much for good schools, low crime, clean streets, in most other CA metros. Folsom has sub 350k starter homes, middle class people can still own there.

who or what is wallethub? it's a blog. figures. And folsomites are salivating over this news like it proves something.

Kind of funny cause a realtor friend posted a totally different, and much well known source that didnt list Folsom. Money Magazine http://time.com/money/collection/best-places-to-live/

and here's another 2016 Ranking of Top 100 Best Places to Live in America | Livability | Best Small to mid-sized U.S. Cities to Live

Folsom comes out very well in terms of low crime rate but cost of living is rated very high. Just enter area codes for comparison purposes.
