What does it mean when youre laid off at ups? I was hired on as permanent and now all of the sudden i'm laid off. I've never been laid off before and how is it different than being fired? And why? i worked hard and i was good at my job. they even offered me a dollar more an hour to do a slightly different position that i had to take a test for and everything. Why am i being laid off if i was hired on as permanent? And if they were going to be laying people off after peak season (my supervisor specifically said we wouldn't be when i publicly asked during a pcm meeting), then why didn't they just hire me for seasonal position instead of permanent?

Maybe when you were hired they intended to keep you on but then something changed? Getting laid off means you should be able to collect unemployment.

No one here can answer your questions. The people who can are your supervisors at UPS. Ask them.

Typically people are laid off due to a lack of work to do. Being hired as "permanent" has nothing to do with being laid off.

Were you the only one laid off or were there others? I believe UPS is a union shop so layoffs would go in order of seniority with the least senior employees being laid off first.

West Sac UPS is losing a lot of parcels now that Livermore and Lathrop facilities have opened. They have much less volume in West Sac now.

For the OP and others who may wonder what it means, it means you're unemployed!
