Hello! We are moving from a city in the Midwest and are looking to find a similar neighborhood in Sacramento. Our current neighborhood is a fairly liberal area, artists and professionals with great schools and lots of kids running around. Can anyone recommend a similar area in the Sacramento area? Nevada City is cool, but such a distance. Thanks so much!

Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Folsom have good neighborhoods and schools.

Do you need to be near your employment? Is that downtown Sacramento? How do you feel about commuting - time and distance? What are the ages of your children? (This can make a difference in your school decisions.)

Are you renting or buying? What is your price range? Sacramento was listed in Time magazine a few years ago as one of the most diverse cities in the country; so I think you'll find our area fairly liberal. Including West Sacramento and Davis to the west of town, there are neighborhoods stretching out from downtown Sacramento for a radius of about 25 miles.

Send us more info.

Yes you need to tell us your price range

It sounds to me like you need Davis, it's liberal, and very clean and way better schools than anything in Sac (or Carmichael, or Fair Oaks), and Davis is about as artsy as you can get...plus it has a great university in the middle of it

If you do a simple mapquest search, it will tell you that Davis is 14 miles from Sacramento. And, it is VERY liberal.

The only downside being, the cost of living is quite expensive compared to other Sacramento suburbs.

Davis, Land Park, East Sac. But these are not cheap areas.

I grew up outside of Chicago, my husband in Ann Arbor, and we found Land Park to be very Midwesterny. Land Park's elementary school is excellent (Crocker-Riverside) though the middle school isn't that great. The high school is good.

Folsom is where we live now and it's comfy, but I wouldn't say it's liberal, open-minded or down-to-earth.

Take a look at Dixon. It's right below Davis. Housing prices are more reasonable and you'll find more places to shop. They still have controlled growth so they keep the city from outgrowing it's support. They also have a brand new high school.

I think Davis would be perfect, although it is very expensive.
