When I was in high school we took a choir trip to Sac and stayed in a hotel called the El Mirador. I don't recall much about it except it had a bar with a view of the swimming pool and of course a couple of the guys ended up in the pool. As far as I can recall it was right downtown on K Street. Does it still exist under another name?.

The El Mirador was on N Street next to Capitol Park, not on K Street. The building still exists, but it's no longer a hotel--I think in the 1980s, it was converted to senior citizen housing, a role it still plays today. The bar with the view of the swimming pool now contains microwave transmission equipment and there is a cluster of microwave antennas on the roof. Today there is a hotel on J Street, the Sawyer, with a similar setup--there's a mid-building pool, and I think they have an upper story restaurant that overlooks the pool (on the K Street side of the building, facing the arena), but I don't know if they have a rooftop bar like the El Mirador.
