If you haven't heard, then you may be interesting in reading about the esteemed Michelin Guide expanding its coverage from Bay Area only to Bay Area, Sacramento, Central Coast, LA, and San Diego. Sacramento in particular has much to gain from garnering the attention of Michelin, which generally establishes a city as being in the 'big leagues' with the world's top culinary destinations.

And truly, being so close to the Bay Area, and Sacramento having access to so many farms, how could it not continue to elevate its dining scene? I think Sacramento will continue to evolve into a city worth moving to in its own right. There really is no other place in the state with the downtown and midtown atmosphere of tree-lined, historic neighborhoods interspersed with commercial businesses. Sitting on a downtown restaurant patio on a warm summer's evening is one of California's finest pleasures.

I would be more interested if the State had not paid $600,000 to Michelin for this. Since they have been paid, how much will the reviews actually be worth?

The California tourism board has a budget of 126 million and is funded by hotel and other tourism related taxes. It sounds like a better use of money than some of the stupid ad campaigns they've run in the past. Paying Michelin to get them to include a City in their guide is nothing new. https://www.eater.com/2018/7/18/1754...gapore-funding

Apparently, paying Michelin to do this is common practice around the world. Regions pay for all their travel and dining expense, but they have no influence on which restaurants they review or how they are reviewed. So either all Michelin reviews are legit, or none of them is. But California's are no less legit than anyone else's.

Frankly to be honest, I have been disappointed with most restaurants in Sacramento. Expensive and poor quality. Now I prefer to buy fresh organic ingredients and cook my own meals. Less cost and better taste. I almost became a chef so I am picky.
