True. Conversely, power should be really cheap at noon to 2 pm when solar power peaks on the grid. But SMUD's summer rates have no dip during the solar peak. That's because SMUD only gets 2% of its power from solar (which is really shameful and they have the nerve to claim to be a "solar leader."). SMUD is a laggard on solar and wind power compared to the rest of the state. Which is bizarre because Sacramento is one of the sunniest cities in the United States.

SMUD offers rebates on several of them, we got an Ecobee with a rebate last year and love it.

If it is possible for you, install a ceiling fan in each of your rooms. It helps my family cut down the cost of using A/C. Ceiling fans works many times better than traditional floor fans.

In what ways do ceiling fans work better?

Ceiling fans being above you and much larger, the circulation of air is a lot better. And since it affects the whole room, it keeps you cool consistently. And ceiling fans are less disruptive.

Unless your floor fan is large, you won't have that same effect. Most floor fans are smaller and it rotates from right to left. While it's rotating away from you, you won't feel the air. You can only feel the air once it comes back to you. Once it moves away from your area, you'll feel hot again. The ceiling fan leaves you feeling cool all the time since the circulation of air is constant, all over the room. The flow of air never leaves you, keeping you cool. Hope it makes sense. During the summer, I use my ceiling fans often and barely use my A/C.
