The shopping in Lincoln isn't very good. As the area gets built out, I think the shopping in Lincoln will get better, but my friends who live their still do most shopping in Roseville and Rocklin. The same is true for doctor's hospitals, you will probably be driving into Roseville and Rocklin for that too. Land prices are cheaper in Lincoln, so I think your money goes further.

On the other hand the people who live in Lincoln generally really love it. Its feels quite safe, I have never had any issues out there even walking around as a single woman after dark.

I like Roseville better but from what I gather the winners are Rocklin and Folsom for overall best quality of life, lower crime, schools and so forth. Loomis scores high as well but real estate is more expensive there. Sacramento areas scored much lower in terms of higher crime rates and poor school ratings. More conservative voters live in the better areas and more liberal voters tend to live in Sacramento.

I work remote and can live anywhere, hubby just retired and we're considering relocating to the general Roseville/Rocklin area to live near our son sometime in the next 5-6 years.

Wondering what the locals think of Lincoln? We can definitely get more bang for our buck there. As it would be a retirement situation, safety, medical facilities (we'd be with Sutter), things like that are a consideration, but commuting is not.

Appreciate any thoughts and insights.
Lincoln is on the urban fringe of the Sacramento area. There is a lot of new housing going in the area and I would say more than half of the existing housing stock in Lincoln was built in the past 15 years. There is an older historic core, but its small. Its safe and I expect Lincoln to to turn into another Roseville, Rocklin type of community. But the area has some growing pains, Shopping is pretty limited. My friend who lives their was excited when Sprouts opened up their, but their is still no Costco, they have a Target, but just a Walmart grocery store, but not a full sized Walmart. You can find Home Depot and Lowe's but no Best Buy. So a lot of shopping is going to happen more in Rocklin and Roseville. As the area gets built out more, I think shopping with improve, but right now its not there.

As for health care, the hospitals are in Roseville. You can find some health care offices in Rocklin, I think Kaiser has some medical offices in Rocklin, but I think for Doctors and Dentists and stuff like that again you are going to be going into Roseville and Rocklin. Housing is cheaper in Lincoln because you are surrounded by open space and lots of new construction is going in, but its also one of those places that people move to avoid higher housing prices in Roseville and Rocklin which are comparatively speaking more built out.

Other areas, you might consider and might also prefer would be Loomis.

Loomis is nice but very expensive. I like Roseville, Rocklin, and Folsom.

Agreed. I would also add Granite Bay which is basically the same as Loomis and east Roseville. That last point is key - West Roseville v. East Roseville are fairly different. I prefer east and I am sure others prefer west but they are different locales - 25 minutes apart from corner to corner.

I ended up buying in old Fair Oaks since my offer was accepted and it is a very nice house and area. Hopefully get moved in by end of next month in time to celebrate the new year with friends. Loomis is nice but I did not find anything in my budget and other homes had dozen plus offers way over asking. One place in Citrus Heights and Carmichael sold 60k over asking price!

Old Fair Oaks is really nice. I am sure you will love that area. There is a really cool little park on the bluff just above the bike pedestrian bridge that has this great view of the American River, its worth the climb when you have the chance.

Also old Fair Oaks has a lot of nice restaurants and bars. You will love that neighborhood. I am happy for you!

Roseville is FAR superior to Lincoln in just about every way. It's not really a competition I don't think. A few nice areas of Lincoln but they drive into Roseville for shopping, restaurants, etc.... Only reason people go to Lincoln is to go the casino. Though it's fun it's so smoky it makes me cough just thinking about it.
