Galt? Lodi? What are some nice places between Sac and Stockton? (Sacramento: foreclosures, crime)

By "nice," I mean not crime-infested. Affordable would be good, too.

Galt, Lodi and Elk Grove are pretty much it...Galt and Lodi are just kinda small towns, nothing spectacular but not too bad either, Elk Grove is a quickly-built and quickly-decaying Sacramento suburb. Most of the intervening space is still farmland or floodplain.

What do you mean by saying Elk Grove is "quickly decaying?" I mean, is it because of forclosures or what? Thanks for the reply!

Foreclosures is part of it. A lot of the houses were built very quickly and cheaply, and there really wasn't much thought to city planning other than "let's build a bunch of subdivisons really fast." There are some offices and job centers there but for the most part it's a bedroom suburb for Sacramento.

All suburbs decay, it's just a matter of how fast and how much. They're the ultimate disposable consumer product.

Elk Grove used to be a cute little small town like Galt and Lodi, but because it was the closest to a job center with high land prices it kind of exploded in the past decade.

Galt does not have much crime, they have a good police department that responds very quickly. You can actually email the mayor of the town and he looks into problems or concerns you may have. They have a weekly paper that post the crime reports and thier is not much to it. Spaans cookies is a great family owned business to get fresh local cookies, breads and pies.

Honestly, there aren't any good places between Sac and Stockton. Stockton is a hole, and going North of it doesn't change things. But you eventually hit Roseville which is pretty nice. Just keep moving North and everything gets better.
