I have a gas hot water heater and gas furnace. This past spring and summer, without the heat, my bill was around $12 for the two month period.

I've heard that gas dryers can be very expensive to run--a couple of dollars a load--but I've never had a dryer so can't compare.

Will PG&E do an energy audit? I know SMUD used to.

Edit: I was just looking at some websites and the average is about 25 cents per load using a gas dryer.

FYI, cb73, this is an old thread. Still an interesting topic with winter rolling around (I could talk for days about energy conservation and the like...) but the OP's probably frozen to death by now.

To citygirl's question, natural gas was a good bit pricier in 2008. Not sure about the overall effect on one's bill, where commodity charges are only part of the total, but I'd guess 30% lower now...? Fracking does have some risks but there are certainly benefits to a lot of people. I have an electric dryer, but then again, I dry almost everything outside because I'm odd that way.
