Hello Friends,

I am planning to move to Sacramento from Gilroy, CA.
I would like to move to Sac City School District.
I heard good things about Elk Grove except the crime is high?
I can't consider Granite Bay etc for the high price homes. My range is more like 220k.
IF I consider Sacramento, what are the good areas?
Elk Grove would be ideal because of the school reputation, can someone chime in on Elk Grove and good neighborhoods of Sacramento that probably do fall in Sac City school district?

Thanks

Juan

First, look at greatschools.net and then look at the schools that are in the area you want to move to.
Second, I've never heard the words Elk Grove School District and school reputation in the same sentence.

Elk Grove like the city of Sacramento have crime issues, overcrowding, and poor street layout.
If I had 220K to use for buying a house I would look at Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, the area of Carmichael near Fair Oaks and Citrus Heights, the newer, nicer area's of Natoma's and possibly-POSSIBLY- Rancho Cordova, though not bloodly likely. There are smaller homes to be had for $220K in Roseville and Rocklin but they will be in the older area's. Do some searches on realtor.com too see what's available then do the school search to see if that area had what you want.

Absolutely, stay away from Elk Grove. Your neighborhood will either be a ghost town in a year due to foreclosures, or you'll have gangbangers on the next block. It's full of the people all over the news right now (those who should have never bought in the first place, or those doing illegal things in order to stay in their 3000ft Mcmansion.
For the prices you are looking at, look at the Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, Carmichael area. Lots of houses available in those prices. Older neighborhoods without entire blocks going under from foreclosure. Not the "best" neighborhoods or schools, but reasonably safe and a mix of generally good, normal people.
I was in your situation 2 years ago, and had a week to come out a find a place. Ended up renting a house in Citrus Heights. Am perfectly happy with our situation, though are looking to move eventually as we have a son starting kindergarten. Schools are ok, but with prices dropping, we can afford to look at areas in Roseville/Rocklin area (great schools).

Good luck with the move
