I guess this economic downturn has not taught us any valuable lessons about what's really important in life, or to maybe change our lifestyle and/or purchasing habits. We are the same conspicuous consumption culture that we always were. Personally, I hope the Fountains go under (no pun intended!). It's just more noveau riche nonsense - overpriced stores selling ridiculously priced things that no one really needs.

Nice place to come with kids to watch musical fountain, I haven't been in these stores but I'm sure all those stores are just entourage or part of decoration for major store - WholeFoods. I'll shop there(when it will be open) for my allergic to food toddler and probably a lot of people will shop there who don't look "surviving" walked around Galleria. And its convenient to do grocery shopping nearby after shopping at Galleria. Relaxing luxury tiny island of city life. Here are few photos of Fountains I did week ago.

SO I drove around there a couple weeks ago (I really wanted to go into West Elm since the closest one here is Portland)

It was the first time my friend had been there. And it looked nice (the Whole foods looks HUGE) But I don't really know how it's going to do - it seems a bit "specialized" like not the average shopping day will be needed there.

AFAIK, they were originally going to work together with a skybridge, but I believe that the partnership with Westfield and (whatever the Fountains development company is) fell apart when the Galleria tried to lure some of the Fountains tenants into the Galleria additions.

It's a pretty nice place, but being as I'm a guy, the vast majority of the stores have nothing for me.

I think it's much prettier to stop at the Peets for coffee and sit on a bench at the Fountains than it is at any of the other places and look at the concrete/construction at the Galleria... or even worse, look at the escalators at the moved Starbucks/In House cafes.

Powerful viewpoint, and yet, I completely 100% agree with you.
Even though this region is not the most exciting place to live, there are many other things that families could do together than hanging out at shopping centres, spending money they probably don't have while staring at faux fountains and tacky architecture.
