My husband and I just moved to the Land Park area and are shopping around for a hospital to deliver our first baby. I am hoping to have it naturally, if at all possible, but would also like to have access to high quality medical staff/facilities/etc just in case the need arises. Mostly, I'm looking for a comfortable, private environment where the nurses and doctors won't pressure me to do anything I don't want to do.

Where's the best place in Sac to deliver? I hear good things about Sutter Davis. Is it worth the drive?

Thanks!!

I delivered at Mercy General (on J st in East Sac)

And I totally enjoyed my experience, but I also did not want natural

Have you looked around for a doula? They can help you out with a natural birthing hospital...would you mind birthing in your home?

Plus there's also a Sutter in East Sac too - off of H st...no nee to drive to Davis. Just don't go to UC DAvis Hospital (on Stockton) I haven't had one friend yet have a good birthing process there.

Your question has sparked a debate between my wife and my neighbor. My wife highly recommends Sutter Davis. My neighbor is insistent that Mercy Folsom is the best place to deliver.

Additional pertinent data: My wife is in charge of all Pharmacy services for Sutter Davis. My neighbor is a NOC shift Nurse on Labor & Delivery at Mercy Folsom. While both are excellent, in my opinion I would go with Mercy Folsom. That little bit of honesty will cause me to change my password so my wife can't read this. Best wishes for a safe & healthy birth experience.

We are going to deliver at mercy folsom. Through this site and word of mouth we've heard mercy folsom to be one of the top places to give birth in sac. It might be a little bit of a stretch for you distance-wise but it might be worth it.

Sutter Memorial on F Street in Sac is supposed to be excellent. I've heard nothing but raves. And it has a level 5 NICU -- the highest level in the region. So if your baby has any problems, he/she would be well taken care of.

One friend said she felt like she was at a spa and wanted to go back after she was home.

Sutter Davis, hands down. I responded to another post regarding this same matter; if you're interested in my reasoning, do look it up

Default Sutter Davis worth the drive!

BIG vote for Sutter Davis! Had my son there two years ago and it was a fabulous experience. They have mid-wives and volunteer doulas. Natural birth encouraged and have birthing tubs. Everybody has private recovery rooms. (most in sacramento have shared including Sutter Memorial) Because of insurance issues can't deliver #2 there, so going to Sutter Roseville (also has private post part. rooms). Have heard nothing but good about it. Haven't heard much good at all about Sutter Memorial except for great place for c-sections and epidurals - def. more traditional. Check out betterbirthsacramento.com they have a comparison of all sacto hospitals and their "services."

My beautiful daughter was born at Summer Memorial on 12/12/04. Her birthmom did a great job and the staff was wonderful!!!
