I have a friend who lives in Murrieta who drives a car. I, however, do not drive. We'd like to meet for a visit somewhere between her town and where I'm now living...Sacramento. (It's been several years since we've seen each other.)

I'd need to take either a bus or a train to get down there. Could anybody suggest an interesting half-way point? If it's necessary for me to travel a little further than "halfsies," this would be okay.

Thanks very much.

You could take the Amtrak San Joaquin to Bakersfield.

If you do go down to Bakersfield, I always thought that Buck Owen's Crystal Palace was something worth seeing.

Thanks, ubu...it does look like fun. However, Amtrak tells me it would take over five hours of butt sitting just to get down there. And the time schedule is lousy -- a train leaving at either 6:35 a.m. getting there at noon, or one leaving Sacto at around 5 PM getting there at 10 PM.

I figure I may as well fly down there. SW tells me they don't fly into Bakersfield, however. They tell me the closest would be Burbank. Hmm....?

I hope to come up with a few names of places before "submitting" the list" to my friend -- I'll let her make the decision. I know she doesn't want to drive into LA or anywhere near it.

So.....

That would be about Fresno.

If you're thinking of flying, you may as well go to San Diego as flights can be really cheap on Southwest.
