I'm retired and looking into Folsom as a place to live. Is Tully fog a problem? How many days/year? Do elderly folks get any tax breaks? Any other advice? Thanks. Limeyron.

Folsom generally isn't high enough up the mountains to be above the tule fog.

As for tax breaks it depends on what county you are moving from. Prop 60 allows the elderly to transfer there prop 13 tax basis from another home to a new home under certain circumstances. Folsom is in Sacramento county. You can read about how prop 60 works in Sacramento County here.

I remember when I moved to Sacramento tule fog was a big problem driving, but all of the building seems to have lessened the effects and I don't think it's a big problem any more. If you want to be above the tule fog, you could settle in Cameron Park or Diamond Springs. Usually the top of the fog is about 800 to 1,000 feet.
