Hello people of Sacramento. I live in the San Diego area right know and am looking into other areas in California. I need your help. Do you know what the average house and living cost is in Sacramento. It has info on this site but I would rather here from the people living there. Also what are the neighborhoods like there. And are houses attractive enough to the point where you don't need to be wealthy to live in a decent home. Plus the downtown area and crime. I am planning a visit to see what it's like because I've only been there twice and I was 5 and 12. So thanks for your help.

What neighborhoods did you like in SD?

The closest thing in Sacramento to Hillcrest/North Park/GoldenHill in Sacramento is probably Midtown, Curtis Park, Land Park, East Sac.

If you like Poway or UTC, you would probably like Roseville or Folsom.

If you are looking for something like Claremont, you would probably like Rancho Cordova or perhaps Citrus Heights.

Elk Grove is a lot like Chula Vista, a newer better neighborhood that grew real quickly that is adjacent to some sketchy areas. In both neighborhoods there are some questions about how well these areas are going to hold.

The closest equivalent to Barrio Logan, Escondido, is probably Oak Park, Meadowview, Del Paso Heights.

In the Sacramento region people tend to think of Granite Bay the way people in San Diego think of Rancho Santa Fe, but personally I think of it more as closer to Point Loma. In the Sacramento region, there really isn't anything like Rancho Santa Fe.

The big differences between the areas is that Sacramento has no ocean and a much worse climate. The big advantage of Sacramento is that for a given amount of money, generally will be able to buy into a much better neighborhood in Sacramento.
