I just moved here and noticed that there a number of ranges around.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good handgun range?

The Gun Room in Elk Grove is a good indoor range, they rent pistols or you can bring your own (they do allow .22 rifles or M1 carbines, and perhaps other pistol-caliber carbines, but no other long arms.). I have heard about the James Mangan indoor range in South Sacramento but have never been there; I understand hours are very limited. Cordova Shooting Center is an outdoor range with rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges (trap, skeet and sporting clays.) While it is a bit farther out (near Ione), the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center is a very large and comprehensive range, with long-range rifle ranges and IDPA shooting tournaments.

Probably the Gun Room--it's indoors and the range is automated, they rent guns, but Cordova is a good choice too (they just don't have the automated hangers-on-wires that let you zip new targets back & forth.)

I do not recommend The Gun Room (TGR). The cost is $15 per person. You can shoot all day if you like for $15. Of course ammo isn't free. If you go there stop by Wal Martone exit to the north and stock up on ammo. I do not like TGR mainly because of the attitude of the people that work there and the element that that place attracts. Prices are expensive also. Plan on paying about 30% more for ammo if you buy it there opposed to online or Wal Mart.

I have heard good things about Sac Valley Shooting Center. You can find a lot of information regarding this topic on calguns.net They have reviews on local ranges and even directions to some BLM land where you can legally shoot for free. good luck.

The Sacramento Gun Club out between Rancho Murrieta and Ione is pretty cool, but I'm thinking it's more a rifle range because that's all I've ever been out there for. They even have a 1000 yard range!
