I finally found a county where the list is open, and I'm number 293 on the list. They now say it will be close to 3 years for me. I cannot make it that long, due to the three SSI cuts this year. I cannot do any work whatsoever and I'm a 55 yo female. I was homeless last year for 9 months and never want to go that way again.
I'm already using food banks to the max and am diabetic and very hungry all the time. Who do I write to to ask for help on this? My state reps? Federal reps because it's backed by HUD? County or city?

The length of the section 8 list varies by county. In some counties, the waiting list is several years and in other counties is several months or even less. Talk to the people in the county social services agency they may be able to tell you which counties have the shortest waiting lists. Then move to that county.

I'm already using food banks to the max and am diabetic and very hungry all the time. Who do I write to to ask for help on this? My state reps? Federal reps because it's backed by HUD? County or city?
