I never pursued either because I don't do well with the dust that would be drawn in to the house & A/C is cheap with the all the energy saving house features. But I did go out to the Whole House Fan store in No. Sacto. Whole House Fan Company I suggest talking to them.

Quiet cool has a patented design to make the operate under 48db. The quietest on the market.

Also they own 9 of top 10 most energy effect fans rated on the cec. They are the best I have seen and have 98% satisfaction rate with great support.

Now the ducking is different. The installers put 45-95 degree angles in at least 5 places with crimps. When I called beutler and a "tech: came out he sait it was normal. I just spoke to an HVAC specialist of 40 years and he said that ducting should be smooth turns not crimps. Go with the guy that is installing a whole house fan. Quicker to cool down. And less to break and pay for the home service. No warentee of any decent service is given by Beutler. It breaks all ther time. I wish the Beutler family would really know whats going on with these shotty installations in their company. Just investigate.
I had Beutler add the Smart Vent system to our new 2 story 4000 sq ft home purchased back in 05, (not cheap) I also installed a whole house fan at our previous 2 story 1800 square ft home. I much more prefer the whole house fan efficiency of cooling down our previous home, open screened front door, turn on for 5 minutes or so to draw out all the warm house air then turn off and set actually to keep house at a comfortable 78° level. Our current home with SV sys. takes much longer to barely do it's job and usually falls short. Also, the vent doesn't seal completely so we get constant mosquitoes and hornets/wasps making their way into our home! To remedy, u need to add a second filter at the initial intake grate and I'm not sure if that's gonna cause problems down the road due to over working the sys.
Beutlers warrantee was short and poor, to say the least and their service was even worse! We have to practically close off our master bedroom vent just to force the ac or heat to other parts of the home (shotty workmanship) and their products are inferior.
My condenser outside (when still new) sounds like it's ready to explode each time it turns on, yet they insisted it was normal, they refused to replace it. My neighbors often asked me if my unit was broken cause theirs sounds normal...
Wish I got a whole house fan.

We purchased a home that has a Beutler Smart Vent System that was installed when home was built in 2001. The noise from the system is horrible. Constantly kicking on/off. My wife wants to just replace the entire system. Can we just remove the smart vent or must we replace our HVAC system. From our experience we would NOT recommend a Smart vent System. Thanks.
