Seems all the Tahoe spots are full!

And some places don't open season til May 13th (after Mother's day)

So give me some suggestions on good spots to go, this car camping with little kids so swimming or playgrounds are helpful

THANKS!

If you are looking to avoid crowds, I have had better luck off highway 88 or highway 4. Stuff off 80 and 50 tends to get booked pretty quickly.

Last fall, I went to Big Trees state park and I really enjoyed that. Its about 5000 ft, so it may or may not be open for Mother's day. But its a pretty cool little area. May is also a really good time to visit Yosemite or Kings Canyon National Parks (the waterfalls are pretty full).

Go to reserveamerica.com and recreation.gov. They both have handy little campground finder "grid" things where you can type in the date, location, amenities (i.e. swimming or hiking) and it'll pop out a list of all available spaces. These are all federal and state places too, so they're the cheapest and in the most beautiful places (i.e. nat'l parks). P.S. iajo was right, Big Trees Park is AMAZING!

I like California State Parks and if you're looking for swimming in May I suggest areas 2,3,9,and 10 on this state park map. California State Parks
