Hello,

I am new to this forum and I need information from any locals in the Sacramento county.

I am a single 24 year old female who is currently going to school for my Registered nursing degree, it will take only me another year to get thru with it. I would like to move here and go to the Art Institute of Sacramento to major in game design. I would like to know if it is possible to have get a nursing job in this area and where is a good place to live at near this school? I am concerned about living places since I am a single female and safety is very important to me.

The health care industry in CA (like most states) is growing. If you have your RN when you move out here, should be pretty easy to get a job.

I know people that are RNs but are having problems landing jobs. I don't think there's much of an RN shortage here, although American River College still deems the Nursing major as impacted.

Also, a word of advice, The Art Institute of Sacramento is a really shady for-profit school. If you want to land in the game industry your best bet is going to UC Santa Cruz and majoring in their Video Game Design program. That will land you a job at the major developers - the AIS will give you a $30,000 piece of paper that's worth nothing.

I know nothing about the video game major or the quality of the program. That is outside my area of expertise.

My buddy is married to an LVN who was going back to get her RN. She said that your employment prospects and salary increase once you have an RN. The way she was talking about you might not have your pick of hours locally, but you probably could move here without a job in nursing and still find someone to employ you fairly quickly.

The Art Institute of Sacramento is located at the junction of I-5 and I-80, in a neighborhood called Natomas. If you wanted to live near campus, you should have no problem finding an apartment that is safe in North Natomas. (Basically anything North of 80). South of 80 and East of 5, it depends upon the complex. Some are alright and some aren't too nice.

At age 24, assuming you are unmarried without children, you might prefer midtown.
