Thinking about moving to Salem. Is the housing cheaper than the Tigard/Hillsboro area and what are the good and ghetto part of Salem.
I have a chance to stay at an address that has a NE in it. Is NE a decent part of town. It is neat Center St NE and Cordon Rd NE.

Thanks for any info.

Generally speaking West Salem and south Salem are considered the desirable places to live in Salem due to high test scores for schools and lower crime rates. We are a bit cheaper than Tigard and Hillsboro, but it depends on where you live.

Are you going to commute up there for work?

OK,
maybe i'm sticking my foot in my mouth but I have a NE address and from what I've seen in my 7 years of puttering around, there are good pockets of houses on this end of town and bad pockets.
I think you need to come and look for yourself and let your gut feeling tell you..
Have no clue on schools as were are empty nesters..
Good luck

You aren't putting your foot in your mouth Jan Ree and the Hayesville area have some nice well maintained homes. Schools over there don't have good test scores though.

Thank you guys for your help. My father in-law has a house in NE Salem and I will probably have a job in Tigard or Portland. I will be there next week and I will check it out.
Thanks everyone all for your help, it gives me some insight.

You might also consider Keizer, if you want to stay near the Salem area but be a little further north to be closer to work.
