I think its pretty sad what some of you have to say about salem. I have lived here my whole life, and wouldn't think of moving anywhere else. Funny how some people seem to forget your life is what you make of it!! I hope you realize how lucky we are being only about an hour away from the mountains, the beach, theres all kinds of lakes, theres waterfalls, and we also have portland that has a great nite life!!! No where is perfect. And i personally find myself and my family very lucky to live here and enjoy all we have to offer!

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Shame to see the 300 Club is gone. It was a great, safe, fun, accepting place for young adults. Mind you I haven't been back to Salem in nearly 10 years but there used to be great little "hole-in-the-wall" resturants in Salem like DaVinici's. Man, do I miss the food at DaVinici's.

DaVinci's is still around: Davinci's Ristorante | Italian Restaurant in the Heart of Salem, Oregon

I just ate there a couple of months ago.

There's a blues jam at Duffy's Hangar every Sunday at 3 PM. Garry Meziere is the lead musician, and he ropes in some award winning blues artists to play for tips. There is also an open mic at the Westside, but I haven't been. I recognize some of the names, though. During the summer there are endless festivals going on at local wineries and vinyards. Some of them are kind of upscale, but they bring in top talent for your money.

I moved to Salem 4 years ago, from Eugene . . . only an hour south. I fall in the 30 year old, married, mom of two category, and don't care for partying and the like. Though a nice dinner and drinks out is fun once in awhile . . . there's Portland for that. :0) But I don't care much for Salem due to the lack of walking paths, sidewalks and general pedestrian unfriendliness. What I do like is Portland being only an hour away, the Cascades being only an hour east and the Pacific ocean being an hour west . . . a lot of stuff I do enjoy doing (outdoors) is a day trip or less. We won't stay here though, we're looking closer to a Portland community. I'm tired of almost getting ran over on my jogs!
