Yes, this ? Is

boring, - but we are thinking of moving to Salem early 2012. Presently living in Northern Ca. Chico, which is a very nice city.
So what, where, how to find a good area to rent in the Salem or Dallas areas? You say the city Liberal?

Well...do you have an idea of where you would work? Do school districts matter? Do you need good bus access? What can you afford?

Any details at all would be useful.

A quick search for salem property management should get you started.

As for being liberal, no. Salem is pretty moderate.

Is there any particular reason you want to go to Salem? It's always struck me as a place that is completely devoid of any character - just a random hodgepodge of strip malls, shopping centers, and poorly maintained houses that could just as easily be located in Kansas or Georgia or Massachusetts (certainly there are decent areas, but overall it's just bland and soulless). It somehow manages to feel completely bland and non-Oregon despite being the state capitol.

Coming from Chico, you should check out Corvallis!

I agree with Corvallis. I don't know if Salem compares to some of the areas listed above, but I can tell you it's starting to look pretty SoCal (strip malls, ugly homes and apartments and disappearing trees especially out South) It is not a pedestrian friendly town, the favorite past time here appears to be driving your diesel truck or hummer, maybe out south a bmw or mercedes, around and around town stopping at each starbucks/dutch brothers along the way.

Salem is affordable. The Kaiser is down south so do you want to be close to it? Any place down south is generally nice. South Salem is very car dependent though.

Dallas is cheaper than Salem if affordability is important to you. Apartments.com and Craigslist have many of our local rentals. Looking for a house, apartment? What do you want to rent?

My husband likes Dallas- there 4 senior communities in Salem and 3 or 4 in Dallas too. Glad to hear Dallas is cheaper. Are there any lakes or rivers in the Salem area?

Salem sits on the Willamette River. There are many creeks that run through the city at different places. No lakes though.

Dallas sits on Rickreall Creek.

The closest lake is Detroit Lake (actually a reservoir) about 45-50 minutes away.
