How feasible would it be to commute one day a week from Lincoln City to Salem or from Newport to Corvallis? I am especially concerned about the winter months. I would be leaving around 5:30 am and coming back around 8:00pm.
Thanks!

It takes about 1.5-2 hours to get to Salem from Lincoln City. Winter ice and mud slides would be the biggest issues. Especially since you are leaving so early in the morning.

I doubt it takes that long. I made the trip from the casino in Lincoln City to my mother's house east of Amity in about 45 minutes. Of course, I grew up there and took the back roads which cut off a few miles, but I can't see it taking over an hour to get to Salem. Of course more in traffic, but there won't be any traffic at 5:30 in the morning.

We go to Lincoln City all the time. 1.5-2 hours. You can save 1/2 an hour depending on where in Salem you'd have to go.

It does depend on where in Salem. East side of Salem like Lancaster then 2 hours, but West Salem, no more then 1.5 That is with traffic. No speeding just a hair over an hour. It is 58 miles downtown to downtown. The route there doesn't have to much of the issues with mud slides. But occasional high water with flooding from the Salmon that runs by there at times.

One friend did the drive daily back and forth to work. It made his days long but for his line of work Oregon isn't friendly for it so he had to travel often.

Thanks for everyone's input. I would mainly work in Lincoln City, but could pick up some occasional extra work in Salem. Don't know if it would be worth the driving, especially in bad weather. Probably won't know til I get there and see what it's like.

Buy a helicopter. Then the road conditions won't matter! :-)

2 hours each way and a very risky intersection.
