My husband and I have committed 99% to moving ot the SouthWest Area of Oregon, looking at Rouge River, Ashland, or Medford area. We would like information on these areas suchas, the weather, the employment opportunites, housing, and attractions. We both work now full time and go to school full time. We graduate in May 2014-business and psychology. He is closing in on 60is, I am craweling on 50ish..., Any information that anyone would like to share or direct our attentions in would be greatly appreciated...

Congratulations on being financially independent at such an early age. Most people have to at least wait for Social Security to live without a job. Rogue River is a wonderful small town, not too far from Ashland to drive in for entertainment. You might also think about Shady Cove.

Reading between Larry's lines, he said "There are no jobs for you there."

Ashland is a nice place to retire. More laid back, local shops, easy strolls.... then mass amounts of tourists in the summer. Okay... so maybe you can live nearby and visit when you want.

Medford and Grants Pass are both nice choices, though there is more to do in Medford if you like shopping and services. It is also more stable a county for jobs. Grants Pass is in Josephine County which is really struggling and laying off sheriff deputies left and right, they now do not even have 24 police patrols... So at least Medford in Jackson County is stable. Both cities have medical services and stores for stuff, but again, Medford has more.

If you don't want to live in the direct bustle of Medford, check out the smaller communities of Talent, Phoenix, and Central Point. If you want still further, there is Eagle Point and White City.

There is a lot of recreation to do in this area if it interests you. Between Oregon and California, plenty to see and do starting in either the Rogue Valley or Medford metro.

If you want isolation, look at Klamath Falls.
