I have been to Oregon several times and I am attempting to move back. One of the few larger cities that I have never spent any time in is Salem. Why does it seem that so many people on this board say that Salem sucks? It seems like a decent city - it's got a larger population size (for Oregon), seems to have many good restaurants/pubs, close to the beautiful coast, close to Eugene and Portland (airport), moderate climate. What are the pros and cons of Salem?

This is sort of like the old "Have you quit beating your wife yet?" question.

In 6 months of reading every post on the Oregon forums everyday, I certainly don't have the impression that "so many people on this board say that Salem sucks".

If you have a specific question about a particular area, I'm sure the fine members of this forum would be more than pleased to try and help you out.
